First thing you need to remind yourself is that handmade products are handcrafted by a person, not by the computers that make hundreds of copies in a day. People make something by hand when its material requires a gentle and careful approach that machines are not capable of. Usually the process of making one item could vary from two hours to fifty and more, depending on the difficulty so it takes a lot of time and effort to make that one example.
Basically, three rules you need to remember as a mantra:
Wear gently;
Do not wash these products in the washing machine;
Dry flat.
If possible, use dry cleaning. The staff there can consult you regarding the material of your item and the best way to clean it. If dry cleaning is not possible, then hand wash only.
If the item has fur, we wouldn’t suggest washing it, as chemicals from washing powder might harm the fur and it will lose its original look.
If an item has any small parts of decorations like crystals or seed beads, try not to rub, otherwise it might tear an embroidery and it will be destroyed.
Another mantra to remember: The quicker you will act the easier it will be to take off the stain.
So, if you have got the stain and the area of a dirt is safe (meaning doesn’t have any kind of details, like embroidery, fur, etc) you could try taking a wet napkin or a soft wet sponge with a little bit of hand soap on it and try to remove the stain by rubbing that spot a little bit with a very soft, gentle pressure.
Never machine dry and do not wring, especially if we are talking about textile such as wool, that will lose its original form after machine dry.
Instead, put an item with the towel under it on the table and give it to dry naturally.
